Obviousness[, however,] requires more than a mere showing that the prior art includes separate references covering each separate limitation in a claim under examination. KSR Int'l Co. v. Teleflex Inc., 550 U.S. 398,418, 127 S. Ct. 1727, 167 L.Ed.2d 705 (2007). Rather, obviousness requires the additional showing that a person of ordinary skill at the time of the invention would have selected and combined those prior art elements in the normal course of research and development to yield the claimed invention. Id. at 421, 127 S. Ct. 1727.

The mere fact that McGuire teaches a PPU that can perform parallel/concurrent processing of threads and programs does not mean that applying such concurrent processing to any two particular elements would have been obvious. As Judge Learned Hand long ago explained, simply finding prior art disclosures of the claimed elements is insufficient:

[a]ll machines are made up of the same elements; rods, pawls, pitmans, journals, toggles, gears, cams, and the like, all acting their parts as they always do and always must. All compositions are made of the same substances, retaining their fixed chemical properties. But the elements are capable of an infinity of permutations, and the selection of that group which proves serviceable to a given need may require a high degree of originality. It is that act of selection which is the invention ....

The Examiner merely opines that an increase in offset potential is desirable, without explaining why that would be so. However, “it is not enough to simply show that the references disclose the claim limitations; in addition, ‘it can be important to identify a reason that would have prompted a person of ordinary skill in the art to combine the elements as the new invention does.’”  Transocean Offshore Deepwater v. Cir. 2009)  (“Although predictability is a touchstone of obviousness, the ‘predictable result’ discussed in KSR [KSR Intern. Co. v. Teleflex Inc., 550 U.S. 398 (2007)] refers not only to the expectation that prior art elements are capable of being physically combined, but also that the combination would have worked for its intended purpose.”);

[A]n invention is not obvious to try where vague prior art does not guide an inventor toward a particular solution. A finding of obviousness would not obtain where “what was ‘obvious to try’ was to explore a new technology or general approach that seemed to be a promising field of experimentation, where the prior art gave only general guidance as to the particular form of the claimed invention or how to achieve it.” [cit. omitted]. This expresses the same idea as the KSR requirement that the identified solutions be “predictable.”
